The Church (that’s you), Will She Stand United; Will She Stand at All?

A few weeks ago in mass, after reading the most atrocious ad published in the New York Times It’s Time to Quit the Catholic Church to us during a homily, Father Charles (a Norbertine priest) said that a bishop told him a few years ago something along the lines of ‘I will die peacefully in bed. My successor will die in prison. And his successor will die a martyr.’

While some people may believe this is an exaggeration, I do believe now is a time when people of faith will have to make the decision between apathy and truth, and the truth will not be an easy thing to stand for. I could make a list of severe threats and attacks of our faith, but I will not drag this on that long.

A perfect example is the HHS Mandate forcing employers to give free contraception, sterilization, and abortion inducing drugs without any provision for conscience protection. A few weeks ago, thousands of Americans across the country in over 140 locations came together to rally in solidarity against the HHS threat to religious liberties because they see the slipp

ery slope we are sliding down and they are going to do something about it.

The easy thing to do would be to conform.  Heck, it would would be less work and we wouldn’t have to worry about those who disagree with us. Catholics could also allow the HHS mandate to create a split between the millions of people in the pews that either do use “family planning” services, which treat pregnancy as a disease, and those who look at the creation of life as beautiful, miraculous, and sacred.  I hear the conversations taking place at my own parish where people have tried try to justify the HHS mandate.

Will this split Catholics and other Christians once again? You see, this is exactly what the pro-abortion leaders want! The late Dr. Bernard Nathanson, one of the founding members of pro-abortion organization NARAL who led in legalizing abortion in the U.S. and later turned pro-life said "We would never have gotten away with what we did if you (the clergy) had been united, purposeful, and strong."

All those years ago, fast approaching 30 years, the pro-abortion movement specifically attempted to split the Catholic church on abortion because they knew if we were unified they could have never legalized abortion. Along those lines, president Oba

ma has skillfully tried to point out that majority of Catholics use birth control and this has been a leading argument for Catholics who support the HHS mandated services.

President Obama and the pro-abortion movement know they cannot defeat a unified Catholic church. They are scared of the Catholic church. Well, guess what? Not only are Catholics saying no to this mandate that directly assaults religious liberties, but people of all faith walks are saying “enough is enough!”

So while there is a huge attempt at splitting the faithful, I have no doubt that with hard work and perseverance, we will see this mandate and others like it thrown out the door. But, people need to stop thinking that Catholics and other Christians are the minority; because we are not.  However, too many of us are silent . . .

Will you be silent? As we move forward, all of us will have to choose apathy or advocacy. I truly believe we are entering a period of great persecution in the Church and we have to be prepared not just mentally but spiritually.

I watched this video from Glenn Beck TV (GBTV) a couple weeks ago and I really believe Glenn captures the situation clearly and lays out the facts as they are. Please watch this video because there is much brought to light about how serious this persecution of the church really is particularly as you look at the global perspective of events worldwide:
