Girls: From a Flower to a Bomb

TulipsMost any girls over the age of 14 say other girls are among those who wound them the worse.

You girlfriends are those who can encourage you to conquer the world then undercut you with a simple few words or actions.

Why is this?

We all do this in some way. Think of your own life… OH how easy it is to divide by complaining and negativity.

bombThe sad thing is, girls really need each other to be challenged and grow. Too often friendships end over a plethora of reasons. The result is an army of friends, acquaintances, and people (completely unrelated to the situation) choosing a side.

What was potentially a small feud, or something that should only be between two persons, turns into a bomb dropping in a town and the people decide to break into two groups that fight over food and shelter.

Quotation-Saint-Augustine-love-soul-beauty-Meetville-Quotes-48078It’s sad because girls have the ability to encourage, build community, and grow. I constantly see girls encouraging their friends in remarkable ways.

As a young woman I encourage you to think of ways to affirm rather than shatter. Perhaps by working on not complaining, only saying nice things about people, or being careful with idle time…

How would you do this?

This is all too true! Girls of all ages do this day in and day out. It's like an evil game we like to play with each other.

Nikita, Thank you for your comment. I really enjoyed reading your blog. It's often nice to hear that we're not the only girls who go through this. I too thought it would have stopped maybe after middle school but it seems to ever be the trend as we become older. I find the more we are kind and neutral in the situation the better we manage in the long run. You're in my prayers as you go through this difficult bump with friends. I try to always grow a thicker skin in the situation no matter what. Too often as girls we overthink situations. Try to remember that while these are awful situations that hurt us, we often do not understand the other sides situation too. I would almost rather it be a mistake on my part then leave myself wounded down the road. I think of Mother Mary who after the annunciation immediately went to her cousin Elizabeth. May every encounter with friends or even acquaintances be as joyous as Mary's was with Elizabeth. Timmerie
